Tether's AI Division Teases Major QVAC Breakthrough

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino announced on March 15 that the company's AI division is set to unveil what he described as a "true breakthrough" within days, marking a bold new chapter in its decentralized intelligence strategy.

The announcement came shortly after the QVAC team released Workbench version 0.4.1, featuring a redesigned interface and enhanced local AI performance across desktop and mobile platforms. QVAC, short for QuantumVerse Automatic Computer, is Tether's flagship platform built to run AI models entirely on consumer devices, eliminating the need for cloud servers or API keys.

Operating under Tether Data, the company's tech arm, QVAC represents a significant strategic pivot from Tether's roots as the issuer of USDT, the world's largest stablecoin by market cap. This shift is backed by serious financial firepower — Tether posted over $10 billion in net profit for 2025, largely fueled by returns on $141 billion in U.S. Treasury holdings, with excess capital channeled into AI, energy, and peer-to-peer communication ventures.

Since its mid-2025 debut, QVAC has expanded rapidly. Tether released the Genesis I dataset containing 41 billion tokens in October 2025, scaled it to 148 billion tokens with Genesis II in December, and launched QVAC Fabric LLM, an open-source fine-tuning framework compatible with smartphones. A live demo later showcased QVAC handling complex reasoning tasks on a low-spec laptop using the Model Context Protocol to connect with third-party tools.

The upcoming release could involve an open-source assistant framework, an optimized edge inference model, or deeper integration between AI agents and Tether's payment infrastructure, which already supports autonomous Bitcoin and USDT transactions.

While the momentum is undeniable, industry observers urge caution given Tether's mixed transparency record. The real measure of this announcement will be whether the product matches the promise.
