XRP Ledger v3.2.0 Upgrade Nears Key Milestone as Validator Support Tops 80%

The XRP Ledger’s latest server software upgrade, v3.2.0, is steadily gaining traction, with validator adoption already surpassing the network’s activation threshold even as many public nodes continue running the previous version.

According to XRPSCAN data, around 43% of the XRP Ledger’s 833 active nodes have upgraded to v3.2.0, while about 51% remain on v3.1.3. The update was released on June 15 and aims to make the blockchain more cost-efficient to operate, improve network stability, and strengthen its appeal for institutional users.

Although overall node adoption remains gradual, the XRP Ledger’s Unique Node List (UNL) validators have largely completed the transition. Of the 35 validators on the default UNL, 31 are now running v3.2.0, representing roughly 89% adoption. This exceeds the ledger’s requirement that more than 80% of trusted validators support a new version for two consecutive weeks before activation can be finalized.

Validator participation is more significant than overall node counts because the UNL determines network consensus and software activation.

Meanwhile, a separate on-ledger amendment known as fixCleanup3_2_0 is still awaiting sufficient validator approval. Unlike the software update itself, the amendment requires a formal governance vote and includes multiple security enhancements for newer XRP Ledger features, including single-asset vaults, permissioned decentralized exchanges (DEXs), multi-purpose tokens (MPTs), and the network’s lending protocol. It also introduces safeguards to prevent deleted accounts from leaving behind unnecessary ledger data.

Ripple, whose founders created the XRP Ledger, has voted in favor of the amendment. However, support for fixCleanup3_2_0 remains below the level needed for activation. Validators that do not upgrade before the amendment is enabled could enter an amendment-blocked state, temporarily preventing them from fully participating in the XRP Ledger network.
