YouTube Adds AI Tools for Editing, Ideas and Thumbnails
Gemini Omni will support conversational editing in Shorts and YouTube Create, while Studio tools handle thumbnails, titles and content planning.
YouTube is expanding AI assistance for video editing, content ideas and thumbnail creation, giving creators new tools across Shorts, YouTube Create and Studio products.
YouTube is integrating Gemini Omni into a conversational editing assistant for Shorts and the YouTube Create app. Creators will be able to use text prompts to trim speech, synchronize music, add text hooks and rearrange frames.
Studio tools cover other parts of the publishing process. Ask Studio began adding thumbnail generation for long-form videos in July 2026. Creators can request a thumbnail through chat and modify its colors and layout, with the results tailored to the video’s themes and the creator’s style.
Eligible videos can test as many as three titles, thumbnails or title-and-thumbnail combinations. YouTube chooses the strongest option using watch time, and the testing process can take up to two weeks.
Ask Studio, introduced in 2025, can answer questions about analytics, community feedback and content ideas. Its Inspiration tab generates nine ideas for each prompt. The thumbnail A/B-testing feature has been used more than 15 million times since launching in 2023.
The expanded tools place AI assistance at several stages of a creator’s workflow, from assembling footage to developing ideas and refining how videos appear to viewers. The available tools focus on editing, planning and packaging rather than independent production of a complete video.
YouTube’s Made On YouTube 2026 event is scheduled for Sept. 23 in New York City.
