Cosmos Hub Restarts After 25-Hour Halt, Moves $2.1 million in ATOM
Validators restarted the network Sept. 23 after a Neutron governance attack, then moved 1,227,121 ATOM from a wallet linked to the attacker.
Cosmos Hub resumed block production at 8 a.m. ET (12:00 UTC) Sept. 23 after validators halted the network for nearly 25 hours and then moved about $2.1 million in stolen Cosmos (ATOM) tokens linked to a Neutron governance attack.
The first block after the restart transferred 1,227,121 ATOM from a wallet linked to the attacker to a newly created address. The transfer was not signed by the wallet owner.
The Hub stopped at block height 33,086,740 after the attack began on Neutron, a blockchain in the Cosmos ecosystem. A governance proposal gave the attacker control of contracts connected to Astroport and Drop, exposing about $9.4 million to $9.5 million in assets.
The Hub itself was not exploited. The affected ATOM originated on Neutron, and validators halted the network to prevent the tokens from being transferred, swapped or bridged elsewhere before intervening during the restart.
