FBI Recruitment Website Taken Offline After Unauthorized Activity Detected
The FBI said it detected unauthorized access to FBIjobs.gov and began an internal investigation after the group posted screenshots and personnel lists.
ShinyHunters claimed it breached an FBI recruitment system and exposed personal information tied to employees and job applicants, prompting the bureau to investigate unauthorized access to FBIjobs.gov.
The FBI said it detected unauthorized activity on the recruitment website and activated an internal investigation and response process. FBIjobs.gov and the Special Agent Applicant Portal were unavailable and displayed maintenance notices.
ShinyHunters posted screenshots and thousands of names as evidence of the alleged intrusion. The group claimed the exposed files included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, job assignments and information about some family members.
The group said the attack was retaliation for an FBI cybersecurity notice issued in May that described its operations and urged companies not to pay ransom demands.
The alleged disclosure creates additional risks for people connected to federal law enforcement, including targeted harassment, social engineering and repeated reuse of leaked information. The FBI’s investigation and response remain ongoing.
