MultiversX Restarts Block Production After Five-Day Exploit Halt
The network resumed Sept. 24, but Kraken kept MultiversX (EGLD) markets in cancel-only mode with deposits and withdrawals paused.

MultiversX (EGLD) resumed mainnet block production Sept. 24 after an attempted exploit halted network progression, but Kraken customers still could not trade, deposit or withdraw EGLD.
The incident began Sept. 19 when a virtual-machine atomicity issue caused invalid state changes and stopped the network from advancing. A recovery upgrade was deployed, and new blocks appeared on the MultiversX mainnet gateway after the restart.
The disruption lasted about five days by calendar date. The exact halt and restart times were not provided.
Exchanges and bridges are expected to reopen in stages following the network restart. The resumed block production restores activity on the blockchain itself, but it does not mean individual platforms have restored EGLD services.
Kraken placed EGLD trading pairs in cancel-only mode at 5 p.m. ET (21:00 UTC) Sept. 19. Customers could cancel existing orders, but they could not place new orders or execute trades.
Kraken’s status update also showed EGLD deposits and withdrawals paused. The exchange first flagged possible EGLD funding-gateway delays at 9:58 a.m. ET Sept. 16, before the Sept. 19 incident was publicly disclosed.
Kraken’s EGLD funding-gateway problems began before the MultiversX incident was publicly disclosed, leaving the relationship between the two events unclear. Kraken had not announced when EGLD trading, deposits or withdrawals would resume.
