DCENT App Wallet Drain Takes 12.4 Million XRP From 7,393 Wallets
The drain continued through Sept. 25, with 638,920 XRP swept since Sept. 21 and 1,112 wallets targeted after the initial six waves.
A continuing drain tied to the DCENT App Wallet has taken 12,402,589 XRP from 7,393 XRP Ledger wallets, with the same keys still being used after users were told to move their funds.
The latest activity covered Sept. 21 through Sept. 25 at 1:28 a.m. ET (5:28 a.m. UTC), when 638,920 XRP had been swept. The total included 287,638 XRP on Sept. 22 and 192,040 XRP on Sept. 24.
The same keys were used against 1,112 wallets after the initial six waves. That included 345 wallets targeted for the first time and 76 wallets that were emptied, refilled and emptied again.
DCENT disclosed abnormal asset transfers involving its App Wallet after receiving its first report on Sept. 16. The company instructed users to update the app through an official store, create a wallet with a new recovery phrase, move assets to a new address and avoid reusing previous addresses for deposits, signing or token approvals.
The ledger tally also shows 6,095 accounts deleted and about 6.3 million XRP swapped to Ethereum. DCENT is working with law enforcement, exchanges and external security specialists to trace the funds and seek freezes.
