Drone Strike Forces Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk Refinery Offline

Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk Oil Products Plant temporarily suspended operations after an overnight air attack damaged the facility in Rostov region, adding fresh uncertainty to regional energy flows.
Rostov Gov. Yury Slyusar said Friday that the plant sustained damage and that no one was injured. He did not identify the attacker or provide details on the equipment affected.
About 50 drones were destroyed over Rostov region overnight, including near Novoshakhtinsk and in six other districts, authorities said. The attack occurred before Friday, Sept. 25.
Novoshakhtinsk is an oil-processing facility in southern Russia. The duration of the shutdown, the extent of the damage and the timing of any restart were not disclosed.
The outage highlights the geopolitical risk surrounding Russian energy infrastructure and refined-fuel flows, an issue watched by markets as the war continues.
