Cosmos Hub Secures 1.227 Million ATOM After Neutron Attack
The recovered tokens are held in a four-of-six multisig wallet and cannot move without Cosmos Hub governance approval.
Cosmos Hub has secured 1.227 million ATOM linked to the Sept. 22 Neutron governance attack, placing the tokens in a multisignature wallet pending a governance-approved return.
The wallet requires four of six approvals and is controlled by Nansen, Keplr, Enigma, Silknodes, Kiln and Polkachu. The funds will not be staked, lent or traded while they remain in custody.
The attack targeted Neutron-linked protocols, including Astroport, and led to about 1.73 million ATOM being moved to Cosmos Hub. Cosmos Hub itself was not attacked, and user funds on the network were not affected.
Hub validators halted the network for about 24.5 hours to prevent further transfers. Block production resumed Sept. 23 after the network adopted the repaired Gaia v28.3.0 software and moved the remaining ATOM into the multisignature wallet through a one-time state change.
About 500,000 ATOM had already been exchanged for Ether and cannot be recovered. Another 169,000 ATOM entered the attacker’s address through a THORChain refund after the network restarted, then moved to Osmosis and was sold.
Neutron’s team plans to submit a recovery plan and related governance proposal next week.
