U.S. and China Agree to AI Incident Channel in Eight-Point Deal
The agreement also includes a November AI dialogue, trade measures and plans for a military crisis-communications memorandum.
The United States and China agreed to establish a communication channel for artificial intelligence incidents as part of an eight-point consensus reached during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Sept. 23-25 state visit to the United States.
The countries will also create an AI dialogue to discuss related risks and benefits, with the next session scheduled for November.
The broader package includes a commitment to build a constructive U.S.-China relationship of strategic stability, mutual support for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and Group of 20 summits, and an agreement that Iran should honor its pledge not to develop nuclear weapons.
The leaders also endorsed trade-team consultations, including a $30 billion reciprocal tariff arrangement and additional mechanisms such as a trade council. Counternarcotics cooperation and joint law-enforcement work were recognized, while the two militaries agreed to move quickly toward a memorandum of understanding on crisis communication and prevention.
The package also includes the arrival of two pandas at Zoo Atlanta.
