Pi Network Sets Oct. 16 Mainnet Upgrade After Protocol 28 Testnet Move
Node operators must install the update by Oct. 13 as Pi Network prepares infrastructure changes for transaction data and smart-contract management.
Pi Network has moved Protocol 28 to Testnet and set an Oct. 13 software deadline for node operators ahead of a planned Mainnet upgrade on Oct. 16, marking the network’s next scheduled infrastructure change.
The transition followed completion of the Protocol 27 upgrade on Mainnet. Pi Network announced the Testnet deployment Sept. 25 at 7:28 p.m. ET (23:28 UTC).
Protocol 28 is intended to improve the network’s handling of delays in transaction data. It also gives developers a way to update multiple smart contracts at the same time and modify stored application data more safely as applications evolve.
Node operators must install the new protocol by Oct. 13. The Mainnet upgrade is scheduled for Oct. 16, but no activation time has been announced.
Pi (PI) closed at $0.091216 on Sept. 25 and $0.086368 on Sept. 24. The planned upgrade addresses network infrastructure and developer tools; the announcement did not disclose a change to PI’s token supply, announce a new application or confirm an exchange listing.
It also did not establish a confirmed effect on PI’s price. The Oct. 16 date continues the sequence detailed in TokenPost’s earlier coverage of Protocol 27 completion and the planned Protocol 28 upgrade.
The next concrete milestone is the Oct. 13 deadline for node operators, followed by the planned Mainnet upgrade three days later.
