OpenAI Sets Sept. 29 DevDay 2026 With Sam Altman Keynote

OpenAI’s Sept. 29 DevDay 2026 event could clarify how the company plans to build on previously introduced agent technology for consumers and developers.
The event will take place in San Francisco, with the opening keynote scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (5 p.m. UTC). OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is scheduled to appear.
The program includes technical sessions, new tools, demonstrations and workshops. OpenAI has not confirmed whether it will unveil a consumer AI agent called “Aeon,” a name associated with speculation about software that could remain active and handle recurring tasks across services.
The possible product would represent a broader use of agent technology than software that completes a single task during an active session. Potential functions could include recurring research, monitoring conditions, managing follow-ups and completing workflows over several hours or days.
OpenAI introduced ChatGPT agent on July 17, 2025. The system was designed to research websites, navigate browsers, fill out forms and edit spreadsheets, while requiring users to approve consequential actions.
The company also introduced AgentKit at DevDay 2025 as a toolkit for developers building production-grade agents. Together, those previous releases provide the background for questions about whether OpenAI intends to develop a more persistent consumer product.
