Router Protocol will fully shut down its cross-chain infrastructure by Sept. 30, ending bridging services for users and applications that rely on them.

The project plans to permanently burn 303,333,198 Router Protocol (ROUTE) tokens held in its treasury. It also plans to coordinate with centralized exchanges on ROUTE delistings, with each exchange setting its own withdrawal schedule.

ROUTE holders must withdraw their tokens before the applicable exchange deadlines. Router Protocol will not launch new initiatives tied to ROUTE after the shutdown.

The project said it spent the past year exploring commercialization, licensing and acquisition options but did not find a sustainable path forward. It also pointed to scarce Web3 liquidity over the past two years, a shift in market attention toward artificial intelligence and weaker interest in cross-chain interoperability.

Router Protocol has operated for more than four years. It plans to open-source some of its technology components for community use as it winds down by the Sept. 30 deadline.
