Base Completes Cobalt Upgrade With New Token Compliance Controls
The upgrade expands Base’s B20 standard with conditional transactions, corporate-action tools and issuer-authorized transfers for tokenized assets.

Base has completed its Cobalt upgrade, adding compliance and transaction controls for tokenized assets issued under the network’s B20 standard.
The upgrade lets issuers combine checks such as identity verification, qualified-investor status and sanctions screening for a single asset. The controls are designed for tokenized securities and other assets that require more than one eligibility condition.
Cobalt also adds tools for corporate actions, including stock splits. Issuers can preset adjustments that change the share quantity displayed in wallets and applications without minting or burning tokens or altering the underlying balance.
Issuers may authorize administrators to move tokens without approval from the holder. Any such transfer must include a public explanation, and Base itself cannot initiate the transfer.
The upgrade introduces Validity Transactions, which allow users to define conditions that must be met before a trade executes. An exchange, for example, can require an asset to reach a target price before a specified block deadline. The transaction can remain private until it is included in a block.
Base activated B20 on July 8 as a native standard for fungible tokens, including stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets.
