MiniMax has released OpenAgentCore, an open-source implementation compatible with the OpenAI Agents API that lets developers deploy and manage the backend themselves.

Developers can continue using OpenAI’s official SDK by changing the API endpoint. They can select Codex, Claude Code or MiniMax Code as the agent backend.

The OpenAI Agents API organizes agent work in sessions that can support tasks lasting hours or days, context management, tool use, coordination among subagents and saved progress. OpenAI’s hosted version uses an OpenAI-hosted Codex execution framework. Developers can choose where code runs, while OpenAI manages task orchestration, context and running state.

OpenAgentCore shifts that backend management to developers’ own deployments.
