Zcash Shielded Transactions Average 6,200 a Day as Udon Work Continues

The Sept. 28 weekly average was down from about 11,700 per day for the week ending Sept. 21. Tachyon’s 50,000-transactions-per-second target remains a long-term design goal.

Zcash averaged about 6,200 transactions involving shielded funds per day in the week ending Sept. 28, as developers continued work to integrate Udon into Zakura Common.

The daily average was about 11,700 during the week ending Sept. 21, or roughly one transaction every seven seconds. Udon, a Rust software component, replaces parts of the library’s cryptographic code. Its release does not activate Tachyon on the Zcash network.

Tachyon would combine proofs for multiple transactions into one proof, reducing the data nodes need to receive and check. Generating proofs would require more memory.

Earlier optimization of Common cut the time to create a single private transaction from more than three seconds to less than 200 milliseconds. The goal of more than 50,000 private transactions per second remains a long-term design target, not demonstrated network capacity, and reaching it would require further development and security review.
