Plasma Outlines Torch Validator Rotations Without Pausing Blocks

The design allows adjacent validator committees to have no members in common, while a dynamic epoch-boundary feature remains unreleased and under peer review.

Plasma has outlined a validator-rotation design intended to change committee membership without interrupting block production, while a related dynamic epoch-boundary feature remains unreleased and under peer review.

The mechanism, called Torch, is based on Fast-HotStuff. Its design does not require consecutive validator committees to share members. A successful rotation would add no communication rounds and would not pause block production, though it would increase message traffic.

The dynamic epoch-boundary approach described in the technical document has not launched. A formal white paper and machine-verified proofs are expected by the end of 2026.
