Pi Network Moves Protocol 28 to Testnet Ahead of Oct. 16 Mainnet Upgrade
Node operators must update by Oct. 13 as the upgrade targets transaction-data delays and safer smart-contract updates. PI remains 97.2% below its $2.99 all-time high.

Pi Network has moved Protocol 28 to its Testnet and scheduled the Mainnet rollout for Oct. 16, advancing infrastructure work while its native token remains 97.2% below its all-time high.
Node operators must upgrade their software by Oct. 13. Protocol 28 is designed to reduce delays involving transaction data and make it safer to update groups of smart contracts and stored application data.
The Testnet deployment follows the Protocol 27 Mainnet upgrade. The next step is the planned move of Protocol 28 to Mainnet on Oct. 16, subject to the network’s rollout schedule.
Pi Network’s protocol upgrades are intended to expand the network’s smart-contract infrastructure. Protocol 20 provided the foundation for decentralized applications, subscriptions, escrow functions and non-fungible tokens.
The technical milestone has not been matched by a recovery in Pi (PI), the network’s native token. PI was priced at $0.08255 on Oct. 7, with a 24-hour range of $0.08154 to $0.08811. Its all-time high is $2.99, leaving the token 97.2% below that level.
PI’s circulating supply was listed at 11.243 billion tokens, compared with a total supply of 17.297 billion and a maximum supply of 100 billion.
The Testnet deployment establishes a scheduled infrastructure change but does not by itself show that smart-contract usage, developer activity or market demand has increased. The rollout follows the sequence outlined in TokenPost’s earlier coverage of Protocol 27 and the planned Protocol 28 upgrade.
The next concrete milestones are the Oct. 13 node-operator deadline and the planned Oct. 16 Mainnet deployment.
