ICANN Receives 1,615 New Domain Applications in 2026 Round
The submissions include 13 applications for .agent, 15 from OpenAI and proposed crypto-related domains such as .btc and .bnb.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) received 1,615 applications for new generic top-level domains in its 2026 round, including proposed internet address endings linked to artificial intelligence and crypto.
The submissions include 13 applications for .agent. OpenAI submitted 15 domain applications, including .gpt and .chatgpt, while Anthropic applied for .claude. Meta and iPollo are also among the applicants for .agent.
Several proposed domains are tied to crypto, including .btc and .bnb. Cardano’s .ada application also appeared among submissions published during ICANN’s Reveal Day on Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. ET (18:00 UTC).
A generic top-level domain is the portion of an internet address after the final dot, such as .com or .org. Publication of an application does not establish final approval or delegation.
The 2026 round will continue through technical, financial and operational reviews. String Confirmation Day is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2026.
Delegations from the round are expected between 2028 and 2030, depending on the progress of individual applications.
