The White House unveiled a science initiative exceeding $6 billion, with major technology companies pledging $2.4 billion in computing capacity and advanced AI tools for the Genesis Mission alliance.
Nvidia committed $1 billion, while AMD pledged $500 million and OpenAI committed $200 million. Anthropic and Google each pledged $150 million. The broader initiative will combine funding from the federal government, businesses, academic institutions and philanthropic organizations.
The package includes $1.8 billion for virtual biology projects involving the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Energy and Biohub. It also sets aside $215 million for a quantum competition.
NASA and the Department of Energy will work on a nuclear reactor mission for Mars, with a target of 2028. The commitments expand the Genesis Mission’s focus on applying artificial intelligence and computing resources to scientific research.
