Yandex Says Drone Attack Disabled Modules at Second Data Center
The Kaluga incident followed a fire that halted operations at Yandex’s Sasovo facility in the Ryazan region a day earlier.

Yandex said a drone attack disabled several modules at its data center in Russia’s Kaluga region on Oct. 9, marking the second affected facility in two days.
The incident followed a separate drone attack at Yandex’s Sasovo data center in the Ryazan region on Oct. 8. A fire damaged part of that facility’s infrastructure and forced operations to stop completely.
Yandex said emergency crews and company specialists were assessing the damage. The company warned that some services could be unavailable, while its cloud operation shifted workloads from the unavailable ru-central-b availability zone to other zones.
Two of the three supercomputers used to train YandexGPT are housed at the Sasovo site. Yandex has not provided a restoration timetable or identified who launched the drones.
Kaluga Governor Vladislav Shapsha said nine people were injured in drone attacks in the region on the nights of Oct. 8 and 9. He did not say whether the injuries were connected to Yandex’s data center, while Yandex said no one was injured at the facility.
