Midnight’s daily transaction count rose from 284 on Oct. 1 to 26,178 on Oct. 8 after the separate partner blockchain operating alongside Cardano opened mainnet smart-contract deployment to developers.

The increase was about 9,117%, while the Oct. 8 total reached roughly 92.2 times the Oct. 1 level. The figures mark a sharp rise in activity during the first week after permissionless deployment went live, though they do not establish that the change alone caused the increase.

Permissionless smart-contract deployment went live on Midnight mainnet Sept. 28. Developers no longer needed to complete a security review on the Preprod network before deploying contracts to mainnet, and applications can deploy contracts for end users.

The change expanded access to Midnight’s mainnet after an earlier phase of controlled development. It applied specifically to smart-contract deployment and did not represent the completion of the network’s broader development and decentralization roadmap.

Midnight is focused on programmable privacy, with intended applications including decentralized finance, gaming and privacy-focused services. Its smart contracts are written in Compact, a domain-specific language for applications that use zero-knowledge proofs, which allow information to be verified without revealing the underlying data.

The network’s development follows a phased roadmap. The latest deployment gives developers broader access to build and deploy applications while Midnight continues work on later stages of its technology and decentralization plans.

The transaction increase follows earlier development around Midnight’s privacy network, including the network’s effort to expand permissionless access and support private smart contracts.
