AI Data-Center Boom Adds Nearly 20,000 U.S. Jobs a Month

Industries tied to the U.S. artificial-intelligence data-center boom added almost 20,000 payroll jobs a month in September, up from a flat trend a year earlier.
An accompanying chart showed September employment growth across selected industries, highlighting the labor-market impact of expanding AI data-center construction and infrastructure activity.
The buildout has also been linked to local economic gains. Every 100 megawatts of new data-center development creates nearly 1,300 local jobs and $110 million in annual wages.
The employment effect may ease after facilities are completed. Data centers generally need fewer workers to operate than they require during construction, limiting the number of permanent jobs created by each project.
Earlier coverage examined the labor and permitting pressures surrounding the AI data-center boom.
