Solana Schedules 200-Millisecond Slots as SOL Trades Near $110
The SIMD-0525 upgrade would raise Solana’s target block-production rate to five slots per second from 2.5.

Solana is scheduled to activate the final stage of its SIMD-0525 validator upgrade Friday, reducing target slot times to 200 milliseconds as SOL trades near $110.30.
The change is expected around 11 a.m. ET (15:00 UTC) at the boundary of epoch 1053, provided the network reaches the scheduled boundary successfully. It would raise Solana’s target block-production rate to five slots per second from 2.5 under the network’s original 400-millisecond configuration.
The upgrade would also reduce each validator’s four-slot leader window to 800 milliseconds from 1.6 seconds. The maximum block-compute limit would fall to 30 million compute units from 37.5 million under the previous 250-millisecond setting, keeping computing capacity broadly proportional as slots become shorter.
SOL was down 1.96% over 24 hours and 7.16% over seven days in the supplied market data. The slot-time change affects block-production timing, not finality itself.
The activation follows earlier SIMD-0525 stages that reduced target slots from 400 milliseconds to 350, 300 and 250 milliseconds. Solana’s separate Alpenglow consensus upgrade, intended to address finality, has no confirmed mainnet launch date in the supplied material.
