OpenAI has placed Composer predictions in beta for adults 18 and older with personal ChatGPT Pro accounts, adding suggested follow-up messages to supported Codex desktop conversations.

The feature is available in local and SSH threads when users select GPT-6 Astra or GPT-6.1 Sol. After Codex finishes responding, it may offer a possible next message, although predictions will not appear after every response.

Users can press Tab to place a prediction in the message box and then review or edit it before sending. Accepting a prediction does not send the message automatically, leaving the final decision with the user.

For eligible Pro users, prediction generation carries no additional cost during the beta. It also does not count toward Codex usage limits or consume credits. Messages sent with an accepted prediction remain subject to normal Codex limits and billing.

Predictions may take several seconds to appear and may take longer in lengthy conversations. The feature is unavailable in Chat on the web or desktop and is not generally offered on other plans during the beta.

Codex began as a cloud-based software engineering agent that could write features, fix bugs and propose pull requests. OpenAI has since expanded Codex to local and SSH workflows in its desktop app. Composer predictions adds an autocomplete-style interaction to those conversations, but it does not continue tasks or send messages without user approval.
