OneKey plans new hardware-wallet safeguards covering recovery-phrase backups, motherboard communications and supply-chain controls after a recent Ledger-related asset-loss incident raised concerns about how sensitive data reaches a device display.

Hardware-wallet security also depends on the data path between the protected chip and the display viewed by users. Sensitive information may be exposed while moving across that final link, rather than from a failure in the secure chip itself.

As of Oct. 10, OneKey had not received reports of users losing funds in connection with the Ledger-related incident.

OneKey plans to introduce a backup process that does not require displaying a recovery phrase on the device screen. It also plans to prioritize encryption for sensitive communications within the motherboard, with the goal of reducing the risk that hardware implants could obtain recovery phrases.

The planned supply-chain controls include packaging, recovery-phrase display procedures, motherboard communications, distributor authorization and user-verification information. The measures are intended to cover production, transport, storage and distribution.

The company also urged users to purchase devices through official channels, inspect packaging and complete official verification.
