Justin Sun said TRON’s post-quantum cryptography is now live on its testnet.

Sun, founder of the TRON network, said TRON is tracking developments in quantum computing and artificial intelligence. He said the network could bring quantum resistance to mainnet at any time, but no mainnet launch date has been announced.

Sun also said TRON aims to become one of the few major blockchains to adopt quantum resistance before “Q-Day,” referring to the point at which quantum computers could break current cryptographic standards. He said the project remains focused on protecting user assets.

Post-quantum cryptography is designed to address the risk that sufficiently powerful quantum computers could compromise the elliptic-curve cryptography used by Bitcoin and Ethereum networks. The technology is intended to protect blockchain accounts from that future threat.

Ethereum developers are also preparing a longer-term transition to quantum-resistant cryptography. Earlier TokenPost coverage examined Ethereum’s preparations for elliptic-curve risks, including possible changes to account signatures and addresses.

TRON’s testnet deployment does not confirm when, or whether, the technology will move to mainnet. Sun said the network is ready to make that transition at any time.
