RippleX fixed a critical XRP Ledger vulnerability that could have allowed an attacker to create up to 18 trillion XRP, far exceeding the network’s fixed supply.

The flaw affected the ledger’s payment engine and had been present in the code since 2015. RippleX addressed it in XRP Ledger version 3.4.1, released Sept. 25.

RippleX said there was no evidence that the vulnerability had been exploited. The fix is intended to preserve the integrity of the XRP Ledger and prevent unauthorized creation of the token.

The XRP Ledger is an open-source blockchain designed to process transactions quickly and at low cost. The vulnerability’s potential scale made the update significant because unauthorized issuance could have disrupted the ledger’s supply model and affected confidence in XRP.
