Starknet Weighs Ethereum Exit for Quantum-Resistant Layer 1
The network is targeting 2027 for full quantum resistance as STRK more than doubled over seven days.

Starknet may replace its Ethereum-based scaling model with a standalone blockchain built for post-quantum security, with the network targeting 2027 for full quantum resistance.
“We are actively considering becoming an L1,” Starknet said Oct. 8. The network said the change would support its goal of becoming the first fully quantum-resistant network, but it has not approved a migration.
Starknet’s STRK traded at $0.1190 at 4:28 p.m. ET (20:28 UTC) on Oct. 11, up 17.7% over 24 hours and 116.7% over seven days. Futures activity totaled approximately $3.5 billion over the same 24-hour period, while open interest stood at $258.5 million and liquidations reached $14.8 million.
Starknet currently operates as an Ethereum Layer 2, using Ethereum for settlement and data availability. Its roadmap identifies bridge messaging and KZG-based blob data availability as remaining quantum-sensitive dependencies.
The proposal remains under consideration. Starknet has not announced a governance vote, validator model, user-migration plan or launch timetable for an independent network.
