Nokia unveiled a 16-port fiber line card supporting GPON, 10G, 25G and 50G PON on every port as its shares traded lower during Oct. 12 U.S. trading.

The product uses Nokia’s Quillion chipset and multi-PON optical modules. It is designed to let operators deploy lower-speed standards first and add 50G PON later as broadband demand increases.

Nokia describes the system as delivering up to fourfold lower upstream latency, along with quantum-safe encryption and authentication. The company also describes end-to-end resilience without a single point of failure.

“The future of broadband is becoming harder to predict,” said Maryam Chaudry, Nokia’s senior vice president and general manager of Fixed Networks.

General availability is planned for 2027, with no more specific launch date provided.

Nokia shares traded at $10.07, down 2.85%, at 10:48 a.m. ET (14:48 UTC) on Oct. 12.
