Nvidia RTX 5090 Shares GB202 Chip With Some RTX Pro GPUs

Posts from hardware leakers point to a possible end of future RTX 5090 production, while Nvidia has not announced a replacement or 24GB RTX 5080.

Nvidia may redirect future GB202 chip supplies from the GeForce RTX 5090 to RTX Pro professional GPUs, potentially limiting production of its highest-end consumer graphics card.

Hardware leakers MEGAsizeGPU and hongxing2020 posted the claims Oct. 10. MEGAsizeGPU claimed that future GB202 supplies would no longer go to the RTX 5090. hongxing2020 described an alleged factory notice saying Nvidia would stop making RTX 5090 models, including China-specific D variants.

The factory named in the alleged notice was not identified. Nvidia has not announced an RTX 5090 production halt or a 24GB version of the GeForce RTX 5080. The current RTX 5080 has 16GB of memory, compared with 32GB for the RTX 5090.

GB202 is the GPU die used in the RTX 5090 and certain RTX Pro products. GeForce cards target consumer gaming, while RTX Pro products are designed for professional visualization and artificial-intelligence workloads.

Any change described by the posts would concern future chip allocation and would not necessarily remove RTX 5090 inventory already held by board partners, distributors and retailers. The claims also do not establish whether the alleged shift would apply globally, cover every RTX 5090 variant or affect only future shipments.

Nvidia launched the RTX 5090 at $1,999 and the RTX 5080 at $999, with availability beginning Jan. 30, 2025. The RTX 5090 uses Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture, contains 92 billion transistors and delivers more than 3,352 trillion artificial-intelligence operations per second.

The possible allocation change follows earlier coverage of RTX 5090 availability and RTX Pro pricing. Nvidia’s public product materials continue to list the RTX 5090 and do not confirm a 24GB RTX 5080.
