Anthropic plans to purchase $30 billion of Microsoft Azure compute capacity and contract up to one gigawatt of additional capacity, expanding the infrastructure available for its Claude artificial intelligence models and enterprise services.

The arrangement, announced Nov. 18, 2025, is initially planned to use NVIDIA Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems. The $30 billion figure refers to planned Azure compute purchases; the announcements do not describe it as a direct investment in Microsoft or as revenue already recognized.

NVIDIA committed up to $10 billion to invest in Anthropic, while Microsoft committed up to $5 billion. The companies did not provide an exact payment schedule, transaction timetable or delivery schedule for the Azure commitment.

Microsoft is expanding Claude access across its Copilot family, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio and GitHub Copilot. Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1 were added to Microsoft 365 Copilot’s Researcher agent and Copilot Studio on Sept. 24, 2025.

On March 9, 2026, Microsoft said Claude was available in mainline Copilot chat through its Frontier program. Copilot Cowork, developed in close collaboration with Anthropic, was described as being in research preview at the time.

“Copilot is model diverse by design,” Judson Althoff, Microsoft’s CEO of Commercial Business, said.

Anthropic models are enabled by default for most commercial-cloud customers outside the European Union, European Free Trade Association and United Kingdom. Administrators in those regions must enable the models because of data-boundary and in-country-processing commitments.

The expanded Azure arrangement adds to Anthropic’s plans to secure computing capacity, including its previously outlined potential lease of up to one gigawatt of data-center capacity.

Anthropic said Amazon remains its primary cloud provider and training partner.
