Saudi Arabia’s public warning system failed to issue alerts before deadly attacks at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, exposing security weaknesses with consequences for regional aviation and risk markets.

The attacks, attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement, killed at least 18 people and injured more than 300. Hundreds of flights were canceled after the strikes, and airport operations remained suspended.

Saudi civil defense authorities later issued new warnings, but the lack of public alerts before the attacks has intensified concerns about the country’s ability to detect and respond to threats against critical infrastructure.

The disruption also raises the prospect of tighter airspace restrictions and further pressure on regional stability.
