DATA Network Brings 250 Million AI-Data Contributions to Sui
Sui Foundation is investing $30 million as DATA Network retires its standalone chain. Trace processes more than 3 million receipts per day on average.

DATA Network will move its AI-training-data protocol onto Sui after a $30 million investment from Sui Foundation, adding Trace’s large on-chain registry and retiring the network’s standalone blockchain after the upgrade.
Trace has recorded more than 250 million contributions since launching in June 2026 and processes more than 3 million receipts per day on average. The registry records the origin of AI-training data and the rights attached to contributions.
The migration will make DATA Network a protocol operating natively on Sui. Walrus is expected to become the default storage layer for DATA Foundation applications within the coming months, while the broader transition will follow a separate schedule.
The DATA token will move to Sui on a one-to-one basis. Locked and vesting positions are expected to carry over unchanged, with holder economics and governance rights intended to remain at least equivalent to the current arrangement.
The standalone network will remain active during the transition and shut down only after the upgrade is finished. Users do not need to change wallets at this time, and no formal migration date has been announced.
The investment will make Sui Foundation DATA Network’s largest institutional holder. Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs, said, “The migration of DATA Network and Trace to our stack now brings massive volumes of high-quality, rights-cleared data.”
SUI closed Oct. 12 near $1.03 after trading between about $1.03 and $1.14 during the session. The decline occurred alongside the transition announcement, but the available material does not establish a causal connection.
The move builds on earlier coverage of Sui Foundation’s investment in DATA Network. The organizations are expected to publish a detailed timeline before major technical milestones.
