Coinbase and Nansen Expand AI Tools for Crypto Trading Access

Coinbase enables agent-driven trading within user-defined limits, while Nansen requires final confirmation before transactions execute.

Coinbase and Nansen are expanding artificial-intelligence tools that connect natural-language software with crypto trading infrastructure, while keeping different levels of control over transaction execution.

Coinbase launched Coinbase for Agents on June 11, 2026. The service allows AI agents to trade and make payments through Coinbase accounts within limits set by users.

“By giving your AI agent direct access to Coinbase, your AI agent can now do both financial reasoning and execution,” Coinbase said.

The system is available through the Model Context Protocol and a command-line interface. Those tools give agents access to financial reasoning and transaction execution, subject to the user-defined limits.

Nansen takes a more restrictive approach. Its AI platform lets users prepare swaps and rebalance portfolios through natural-language instructions, but the user must confirm a transaction before it executes.

“AI co-pilot, human final say,” Nansen says in its agent documentation.

Nansen also supports perpetual-futures trading through Hyperliquid, including crypto assets and tokenized real-world assets such as stocks and indexes. That connection illustrates how AI interfaces could route activity into existing trading venues.

The products do not establish that AI agents currently account for a material share of Hyperliquid’s trading volume or revenue. They also do not confirm that software agents will overtake human traders or transform the broader crypto market by 2028.

The development follows earlier projections that agents could become a common interface for crypto trading. For now, Coinbase and Nansen have confirmed the expansion of agent-enabled trading tools, with Coinbase permitting bounded execution and Nansen retaining final user approval.
