Rome Protocol launched ROME as the native token for transaction fees on its chain, which connects Ethereum Virtual Machine applications with Solana programs and assets.

ROME was available for transactions on the Rome chain on its first day. The network allows Solidity contracts and users to interact with Solana programs and assets while settling transactions atomically on Solana.

Rome EVM operates through a single program on Solana’s mainnet and supports multiple EVM chains and gas tokens. EVM contracts and Solana programs share state within the system.

The mainnet includes bridges for assets such as USDC, an oracle gateway, a block explorer and applications. Users can sign transactions on their original EVM chains while retaining custody of their assets and using Solana lending markets.

Rome charges a small fee on each transaction across its supported chains. Half of those fees will be retained in ROME or used to purchase ROME on the open market before being placed in a reserve that will not be sold.

The launch was not a token sale. No valuation, listing date or trading venue was disclosed, and the token supply and distribution schedule will be announced after a trading venue is selected.

Rome’s mainnet program was audited by Halborn, and its deployed binaries can be reproduced from a public repository. Other components remain in earlier development stages: Solana zkEVM is running on a development network, while Canton zkEVM is operating on a testnet.
