A couple in Smith’s Wood, Birmingham, were attacked at home after returning from outside at about 12:20 p.m. ET (5:20 p.m. UTC) on Dec. 13, 2025, in a forced entry involving a cryptocurrency demand and threats against the family.

Three men allegedly forced their way into the property and demanded a cryptocurrency transfer. A fourth person allegedly relayed instructions over a video call.

The husband suffered significant injuries, while his pregnant wife was threatened with a knife. The attackers took cryptocurrency and high-value watches before fleeing in a vehicle believed to be a black BMW X3.

The amount of cryptocurrency taken was not disclosed; the cryptocurrency was described only as substantial. The assets, wallet details and any recovery of the cryptocurrency were not disclosed.

Crimestoppers announced a reward of up to £10,000 on Sept. 24, 2026, for information leading to the suspects’ arrest and conviction. The suspects are believed to be in their 20s.

One suspect was described as a Black man with a small diagonal scar beneath his left eyebrow.

“This was a young family, at home, weeks away from welcoming a new baby. What was done to them is hard to take in, and the effects are still being felt every single day,” said Alan Edwards, Crimestoppers West Midlands regional manager.
