Dell Says One 3U PowerEdge Server Can Replace Up to 13 Older Systems
The company says initial testing found up to 70% better performance between generations, but the figures depend on unspecified workloads and configurations.

Dell says a single 3U PowerEdge server can replace up to 13 five-year-old systems, a consolidation claim tied to its 18th-generation portfolio and its cooling designs.
The company also reports performance gains of up to 70% from one generation to the next, based on its initial testing. Dell has not specified the workloads, configurations or testing methods behind the figures, so they do not establish a universal benchmark.
Central processing units (CPUs) remain part of the infrastructure mix as companies build for AI inference and agentic AI, which can carry out tasks across multiple steps. Dell product planner and senior consultant Pradyumna Narendra said demand for computing would grow as those uses scale. He made the remarks in an interview at the AI Data Pipeline Forum.
Dell introduced its 18th-generation PowerEdge portfolio in May. The lineup includes systems with AMD processors. Dell says its iDRAC and OpenManage Enterprise management tools work across systems using different processor suppliers.
A separate infrastructure design for agentic AI is AMD’s Helion rack design, which includes a CPU-only configuration for hyperscale operators.
