Toronto police arrested seven people in a cryptocurrency-linked kidnapping investigation, including three Canadian Armed Forces reservists, in a case involving alleged ransom demands and firearms charges.

The reservists were identified as Talarambage Fernando, James Moreau and Jack Miley. All three have been suspended and restricted from military duties. The investigation is continuing.

The case centers on the July abduction of a cryptocurrency trading platform owner. The victim was taken at gunpoint, handcuffed and beaten.

The seven people face 82 charges collectively, including kidnapping for ransom, forcible confinement and firearms offenses.

Investigators seized more than 2,500 rounds of ammunition suspected of being stolen from the Canadian Armed Forces, a shotgun, two 3D-printed pistols and two suppressors. Methamphetamine and cocaine were also seized.

The case highlights the physical-security risks faced by people connected to digital assets.

The investigation remains ongoing.
