Helium's approved HIP 149 authorizes issuance of up to about 141 million Helium Network Tokens (HNT) over 36 months, setting a three-year schedule for additional network funding.

HIP 149: Helium Utility and Emissions Realignment schedules issuance to remain flat for the first 12 months, then taper to zero over the next 24 months. The supplement is directed to network operations and growth, with 1.25% allocated to five community-nominated council members. It does not flow to on-chain Hotspot rewards.

The proposal schedules the supplemental mint to begin two weeks after the seven-member advisory council is seated, with a later start if delivery of its review materials is delayed.

Helium network users pay fees with Data Credits, which are created by burning HNT.
