Germany plans to deepen cooperation with Nvidia through an industrial AI initiative expected to draw hundreds of millions of euros in government investment, extending the chipmaker’s role in the country’s industrial AI effort.

The proposed initiative would focus on physical AI and industrial models. Its goals include developing AI for training robots and autonomous vehicles, alongside high-performance models for industrial applications that can compete internationally.

Nvidia chips and customized software are expected to support the work. The planned effort combines government investment with the company’s computing products and model-development goals.

The initiative would add to Germany’s Industrial AI Cloud project. The government announced the project in June 2025 after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in Berlin. The cloud was planned as infrastructure developed with German industry.

The Industrial AI Cloud was designed to include at least 10,000 GPUs. Nvidia was to contribute hardware, software and expertise alongside German industry, giving the project a defined computing target.

Deutsche Telekom and Nvidia launched the cloud in Munich in November 2025. The project was developed with Nvidia and Polarise, a data-center operator.

About €1 billion was invested to expand the Munich site. That figure concerns the cloud project’s site expansion, while the hundreds of millions of euros in expected government investment applies to the planned initiative.

The German cloud is part of Germany’s industrial AI effort.
