The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) used securities tokenized from assets held at its Depository Trust Company subsidiary in production U.S. Treasury repo and equity trades.

DTCC announced the conversion July 15. Tokenization represents securities as digital tokens on blockchain infrastructure.

The transition is expected to unfold gradually, while blockchain-based financial services and established markets operate in parallel. A digital token does not, by itself, bring in market makers or ensure liquid secondary trading.

The DTCC activity shows tokens being used in production trades. It does not, by itself, establish how deep or active tokenized markets are.
