Filecoin plans to update its tokenomics this month, with the end of vesting tied to its Genesis allocation expected to reduce daily growth in circulating FIL supply by about 75%. The revised system will direct more block rewards to services that attract paying customers.

The changes pair slower daily supply growth with incentives tied to commercial demand. Services that bring in paying customers will receive a larger share of block rewards under the new model, making customer acquisition a factor in how the network distributes rewards.

Filecoin is a decentralized storage network where users rent out unused hard-drive space. The project is also introducing products aimed at businesses and AI agents. Its stated goal for the update is to increase user participation and improve retention.

The network creates a marketplace for data storage and retrieval using participants’ spare disk capacity. Ending the Genesis vesting schedule cuts the vesting-related contribution to daily circulating supply, while the reward redesign favors services able to attract paying users. Together, the measures put customer acquisition and retention at the center of Filecoin’s platform strategy.
