ChatGPT's Chrome extension can now draw on information in open tabs and, in Work, operate browser controls, giving users a way to ask questions across pages and carry out browser tasks.

Users can mention an open tab to bring its page content into a conversation. Chat can use information across multiple open tabs; ChatGPT Work can fill out forms, send messages, download files and organize tabs. The extension's desktop browser tools also support Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi, though Opera does not offer side chat. Feature access can vary with rollout and workspace settings.

By default, ChatGPT asks before interacting with each new website. Users can allow access once, for a particular site or for all sites, or decline. Allowing access for all sites prevents further prompts. Browser-history access requires a separate request and cannot be set to always allow.

The Chrome extension's version 1.26.1005.11759 was updated Oct. 15. ChatGPT Atlas was retired Aug. 9 as part of a plan to bring browser-based capabilities into ChatGPT and Codex.
