OpenAI is developing humanoid robots with a focus on their intelligence, while CEO Sam Altman expects a prototype demonstration in 2027, years before practical public use.

The project’s main development challenge is the robots’ intelligent systems. The work remains well short of a commercial product, and the expected demonstration is not a launch date.

OpenAI has not disclosed what the demonstration would show or what the robots will look like. The company also has not announced when the public might be able to try them. Altman’s estimate places the demonstration in 2027, with practical use still several years away.
