Qubic Says Attackers Moved About 2.94 Trillion QU From 1,404 Wallets

Qubic attributed the transfers to insufficient randomness in some wallet seeds and said the flaw was outside its protocol.

Qubic disclosed that attackers accessed 1,404 wallets and moved about 2.94 trillion QU during a 104-minute incident, tracing the breach to weak wallet-seed generation.

The activity ran from 7:42 p.m. to 9:26 p.m. ET on Oct. 17 (23:42 UTC on Oct. 17 to 01:26 UTC on Oct. 18). Qubic said attackers exploited insufficient randomness in some wallet seeds. The flaw let attackers reach assets in the affected wallets and transfer them during the incident window. Qubic placed the fault in seed generation rather than in the Qubic protocol.

The two reported totals refer to the same event: 1,404 wallets were accessed and about 2.94 trillion QU moved during the stated interval. Qubic characterized the weakness as a wallet-generation issue, not a protocol failure, and said the protocol remained unaffected. The disclosed time window lasted one hour and 44 minutes. Its UTC times span two dates, while both endpoints fall on the evening of Oct. 17 in ET.
