Model Improvements Linked to Smaller Rise in Developer Traffic

A 10-point increase in model intelligence is now associated with a 20% rise in developer traffic at OpenAI, Anthropic and other major AI labs. The comparable increase in late 2025 was nearly 69%, pointing to a weaker relationship between model intelligence gains and developer traffic.

The figures describe an association; they do not establish that improvements in model intelligence caused traffic to rise. They also measure traffic, not the number of developers who joined or began using a service.

The figures differ from those in an enterprise AI spending analysis, which tracked business payments, token usage and model economics. Those measures did not show a broad decline in developer traffic at OpenAI or Anthropic and did not track visits to documentation sites or use of software development kits.
