孫宇晨 Warns AI Could Put More Than 2 Million BTC at Risk

孫宇晨 placed the estimate before quantum computers mature and said about 1 million BTC are associated with addresses linked to 中本聰.

孫宇晨 warned that AI-assisted codebreaking could expose keys for some unprotected early Bitcoin (BTC) wallets within one to 1.5 years, potentially placing more than 2 million BTC under selling pressure.

His forecast centers on private keys for some early wallets. He projected that codebreaking using artificial intelligence and conventional computing could reach those keys before quantum computers mature. He cited mathematical advances at OpenAI as a reason the timeline might be shorter than expected.

孫宇晨 estimated that more than 2 million BTC could face selling pressure if the keys were exposed. About 1 million BTC are associated with addresses linked to 中本聰, he said, with additional coins held in historic wallets whose private keys have been lost. His estimate includes dormant holdings, but he identified the 中本聰-linked addresses and lost-key wallets as unable to move their funds.

孫宇晨 said Bitcoin could introduce quantum-resistant addresses so owners with access to their keys could move their holdings. He argued that inaccessible holdings could not be protected through the same step. Freezing those coins through a hard fork would be difficult, he said, because Bitcoin’s decentralized structure makes agreement among the community and miners hard to achieve.

孫宇晨 said he has not sold his BTC and transferred his holdings to new cold wallets that have never signed transactions or sent funds. He described the choice as giving up liquidity for security. TRON and Huobi are testing quantum-resistant algorithms on a test network, with mainnet deployment planned about a year before a potential crisis.
