Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire Outlines Digital Dollar Role for AI Agents
In an Oct. 17 interview, Allaire described AI systems that create software, perform economic work and hire other AI systems.

Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire outlined a role for digital dollars in an economy where AI systems create software, perform economic work and hire other AI, highlighting the possibility of payments between machines.
In an interview published Oct. 17, Allaire used the terms “agentic economy” and “machine economy” to describe AI systems taking part in economic activity. His examples included software producing other software, carrying out work and hiring AI to perform tasks.
Circle issues USD Coin (USDC), a dollar-backed stablecoin. The company already presents USDC as a way for AI agents to pay and get paid. Allaire’s remarks placed that payment use in a broader discussion of work that software systems might do for one another.
The interview did not announce a new payment service. It described how payments could fit into interactions between AI systems as they take on economic tasks.
