BNB Chain Sets 100,000-Plus TPS Goal for Planned NewL1 Network

The proposed network would use BNB as its native token. A testnet is targeted for the end of 2026, followed by mainnet in early 2027.

BNB Chain is planning an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible network called NewL1 with a design goal above 100,000 transactions per second for trading, payments, privacy and artificial intelligence.

The proposed Layer 1 also targets transaction preconfirmation in less than 50 milliseconds and block finality in under one second. Those figures are design goals for a network that has yet to launch, rather than measured NewL1 performance.

A welcome post dated July 14 invited discussion in a NewL1 category within the existing Build N Build Forum. BNB Chain plans to use BNB as the network’s native token and does not plan to issue a separate token. The category covers questions about transaction ordering, consensus, gas, storage, privacy and post-quantum security.

NewL1 is intended to complement BNB Smart Chain (BSC), with a native bridge planned to connect the networks. Its proposed transaction system, TxStream, would send transactions directly to a block leader, eliminating the public mempool. A separate PriorityLane would reserve block space, while protocol-level privacy would allow selective disclosure.

Those features remain part of a developing architecture. The forum also gives participants a place to propose designs, but a discussion post does not make a feature part of the network plan. That distinction matters as the project moves from technical proposals toward a test network.

For context, BSC reached benchmark throughput of 5,200 transactions per second and in-memory finality of 650 milliseconds after optimization in the first half of 2026. Those BSC benchmark results measure a different network and cannot be directly compared with NewL1’s untested design targets.

On Oct. 10, a participant posting as galaio proposed a TEE Gateway that would handle encrypted transaction intake and ordering inside a trusted execution environment. Validators would retain authority to sign blocks under that proposal. The gateway remains a participant’s suggestion, rather than a confirmed NewL1 feature.

BNB Chain targets a NewL1 testnet by the end of 2026 and a mainnet release in early 2027.
